They are not gone, the majority of them were moved to Montana and have been there since the 80's. They were brought to Washington from Kane, PA, where I am from. Dr. Cleery rescued the last ones that were in the wild and saved them from extinction. They now have a very high population. They didn't need large packs to bring down a buffalo, they were large enough and strong enough to bring down one with only 4-5 wolves.

My favorite doctor in the world charges the highest, most absurd fees for his services. Of course he operates without a license, has treated many rare diseases and operates on the most hopeless of patients around the world... and is, coincidentally, fictional. But to him, no operation or patient is too valuable- unless they can pay him for the rest of their lives, or hand over their entire family fortune. If his interest isn't peaked, he won't operate..In fact, he'll turn down all the clients he can before hearing them out - because he has too many requests!

I think if the talent or skill is truly valuable, truly unique, one-of-a-kind, very few people will be able to afford it. The writer in this case, SHOULD be a jerk to the person requesting their services(if they are in demand).

In this case-with the technical writing request- that guy bit off more than he could chew with his deadline. Too bad.

VERY definitely! I've given several authors their starts in writing, I've had a chance to work with people I love, and I've been able to write some books that I wouldn't have been able to write by myself.

John,

In your experience, has it been worthwhile to co-author a book?

Definitely, Stephen. Some things can't be made substantially simpler as far as word choices. If you're talking about, say, ventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, and pulmonary embolisms, your basic Gunning-Fog index, figured just by syllables and the length of the sentences you'd probably wrap around these, would be horrible. But you cannot use simpler phrases without losing the specificity and (for the readers of such material) the value of these phrases as summary concepts.

"As simple as possible but no simpler" is an excellent rule for dealing with your text.
